True spiritual maturity comes when the Word of God and the Holy Spirit work together—one builds the foundation, the other brings life. Balance them, and you grow strong in Christ.

In the life of a believer, spiritual power and scriptural truth must work hand-in-hand. One without the other leads to imbalance. In this insightful sermon, Pastor Caleb Khaling walks us through a foundational truth: the Christian life flourishes when there is a divine balance between the Spirit and the Word.
Based on Ephesians 6:10, the message emphasizes being strong—not just in head knowledge of Scripture, nor solely in spiritual experiences—but in the power that raised Christ from the dead, a power rooted in both the Word of God and the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus is not just the written Word—He is the Living Word (John 1:1). To be strong in the Lord, as Paul exhorts in Ephesians 6:10, we must first be strong in Jesus Himself, which includes embracing the written Word and the dynamic power of the Spirit.
Acts 10:38 captures this truth beautifully:
“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power…”
The anointing did not come with Scripture alone, but through the inseparable union of Spirit and power. Pastor Caleb urges us to recognize that our authority and impact come from this union.
It is not enough to merely read the Word. To be strong in it means allowing the written Word to become alive in our daily walk. That is why in Ephesians 1:18, Paul prays that “the eyes of your heart may be enlightened.” Why? So that we not only receive the light of the Word but also walk in its reality.
Similarly, being strong in the Spirit doesn’t just mean operating in spiritual gifts. It means knowing the Spirit personally, learning to yield to His flow, and allowing His presence to shape us into Christlikeness. The Spirit uses the Word to mold us into the image of Jesus, who is both perfect and complete.
Pastor Caleb highlights the imbalance that once occurred in the Corinthian church. Despite their spiritual gifts, they lacked maturity and abused the gifts of the Spirit, creating confusion and division. Paul had to remind them in 1 Corinthians 2:4–5 that their faith must rest not in eloquent speech or spiritual performance, but in the demonstration of the Spirit and power—balanced with truth.
Without the Word, spirituality becomes reckless.
Without the Spirit, knowledge becomes dry and lifeless.
Pastor Caleb references the wisdom of Rev. Kenneth E. Hagin, a respected servant of God, who once said:
“The Word alone, and we dry up. The Spirit alone, and we blow up. But the Word and the Spirit together, and we grow up.”
This warning is as relevant today as it was then. The body of Christ must not lean too heavily on one side. True growth comes from walking in both Spirit and Word.
❝ Too much Word without the Spirit can harden hearts. Too much Spirit without the Word can lead to error. But where both are balanced—there, true transformation flows. ❞
In our modern Christian walk, we often see people swinging to extremes—either focusing only on scriptural study or chasing only spiritual experiences. Pastor Caleb’s message is a loving but firm call back to balance.
We are called to know the Word deeply and be filled with the Spirit continually. One builds the foundation. The other breathes life into it. Just as Jesus was both full of grace and truth, so must we live in a way that is firm in Scripture and free in the Spirit.
Let us not settle for half the journey. Let us be fully equipped, deeply rooted, and Spirit-led. May our hearts be illuminated, our faith refined, and our ministries powerful—not by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit and the Word, in perfect harmony.
